Ocean Grove was selected by its founder, Dr. William Osborn, for its high beach, thick grove of pine, cedar and hickory trees, and the absence of mosquitoes. Natural
boundaries were defined by two lakes and the ocean.

On December 22nd, 1869 Dr. Osborn with 12 other Methodist ministers and 13 laymen formed the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association.
Ocean Grove, a National Historic District, claims the largest aggregate of Victoriana in the country. It is a fine example of a 19th Century planned urban community.

The most impressive structure in Ocean Grove and the center of activity since 1894 is the Great Auditorium. Still used today to showcase entertainment worship services and cultural events.
